Introduction:-
Jhajjar District was curved out of Rohtak District of Haryana on July 15, 1997 and
Jhajjar division came into existence in 2004. Jhajjar Forest Division comprises
of entire revenue district of Jhajjar.
For better administrative purose the entire forest division
is divided in to three ranges namely, Jhajjar, Bahadurgarh and Matanhail, further
ranges have been devided in to ten blocks and 36 beats. All the forest areas in
the district are managed by the territorial staff of this division.
In the forest division, all government forests are situated along
government owned roads, canals, distributaries, drains, railway lines etc. There
are no block forests or natural forests in this District. The tree cover on all
strip forests are plantations whereas the Shrubby Vegetation of Prosopis Juliflora
has come up naturally in alkaline saline areas that are devoid of tree cover. Prior to 1997 the forests were managed on adhoc basis. PCCF Haryana
approved felling plans on three years cycles.
Plantation
program was prepared annually and plantation works carried
out accordingly.
Although, the
divisional forest officer of the territorial division is acting as wild life warden,
but the main responsibility for preservation of wild life is entrusted with wildlife
wing of the department. The district wild life officer of wildlife wing headquartered
at Rohtak is responsible for the execution of works under wildlife scheme.
Forest
Cover of the District:-
The total area
of the district is 1834sq.KM. Most of the area in the district has been brought
under cultivation with the use of latest agricultural techniques and implements. The total area under
forest is 3902.68 Ha.
The forests in this district are situated on both sides
of the roads, canals, distributaries, bundhs and railway lines. These are called
strip forests.
Forest
department is the designated agency for maintenance, protection
and development of the forests. The ownership of the strips vests with the parent
department and are shown as such in the revenue records. The forests are not recorded
as
Forest
lands in the revenue records. There is no natural forest
in the district under the control of forest department. Other forms of forests are
those, which are under the control of Panchayat. In past lot of Panchayat lands
were taken up by Forest Department for undertaking plantations under Social Forestry
Schemes (SFS) and extensive afforestation was done. The Panchayat land plantations
are not declared to be ‘protected forests’ or ‘reserved forests’ under provisions
of Indian Forest Act, 1927. The distributation of forest area is given in table

Main Activities of
the division
The main objective of
the division is to manage the existing forest resources of the district to ensure
overall ecological balance of this region. To ensure the said objective the fallowing
activities are under taken:-

Afforestation :-
Plantation

Wild Life Sanctuaries
in the District ;
Jhajjar district is having
two major artificial water bodies namely Bhindawas and Khaparwas. Which have been
declared as wild life sanctuaries vide Haryana Govt. notification No. S.O. 31/C.A.
53/72/5.18/86 dated 7-5-1986 and No. S.O. 49/C.A. 53/72. 18/91 dated 27-3-1991.
These two sanctuaries are major attractions for the public & visitors in the
district.
The total area of Bhindawas
Wild Life Sanctuary is 1017 acres. This wetland is surrounded by an embankment of
about 12 Km length. Originally a small depression it was acquired by Irrigation
Department of store water coming from JLN escape. About 6 Km away from this depression
JLN canal passes by taking water from Bhakra canal system to the drier areas of
Haryana. There is a lift irrigation system on this JLN canal in Akeri Village where
JLN canal water is lifted up to the net work of canals in the up land drier parts
of Haryana. When there is power failure in this lift irrigation system the incoming
water flows through JLN escape through which water flows in to the lake by default.
When the water in the lake raises above a certain level it drains into drain no.8
that takes water from the low lying areas in Haryana into Yamuna river. This lake
therefore has in let and an outlet.
Location of the
sanctuary
The lake is around 13 Kms from Jhajjar a newly created
district of Haryana. Jhajjar as a township is small and is devoid of any hotel or
tourist facility. In the vicinity of Bhindawas there is no other township where
there is nay hotel or tourist facility. The nearest township there is any such facility
available is at Rohtak. Which is about 45 Kms from Bhindawas. For any one coming
for bird watching even the basic minimum food items are to procured from Jhajjar.
Putranjeeva Herbal Park
:-
Medicinal plants from the major resource base of our indigenous
health care traditions. Since ages man using the plants for treating various diseases.
Recently in
India
usage of Aurvadic medicines has increased drastically,
because of
this reason most of the medicinal plants have been over
extracted from the wild for the preparation of Aurvedic Formulations. So to minimize
the impact on wild sources of medicinal plants, there is a urgent need for Ex-situe
conservation & promotion of extensive cultivation of commercially viable medicinal
plants. In addition to there is also a need to re inculcate the indigenous health
care traditions through education & extension activities. In view of these facts
Putranjiva Herbal Park
has been established in the Jhajjar District.
Putranjiva Herbal Park
is located in the Jhajjar town on Jhajjar Bahadurgarh road.
The total area of the herbal parks is 3.2 Ha. This herbal parks is being developed
for the Ex-situe conservation extension of traditional knowledge of medicinal plants
species to the public at large in the Jhajjar district.
